DIY Peppermint Vanilla Sugar Scrub

Thank you to Nielsen-Massey Fine Vanilla & Flavors for providing me with the most fantastic sugar to help me create this fun holiday gift! As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own!

I think it's safe to say that my favorite gifts to give and receive are homemade ones. Making them makes me really happy and cheery. It's relaxing to me to spend an afternoon sipping hot chocolate, blasting the Christmas station and making gifts for my loved ones. This year I'm getting particularly creative with my gift giving because we're getting married in less than three months (omg) and we just don't have the extra cash to give everyone a super fancy gift. Luckily, this season is not about what you give people, but about remembering to be kind towards those you love and simply reminding them of how much you appreciate them. Since I'm a big fan of homemade body scrubs, I decided a nice scrub would be a perfect gift for the women in my life who deserve a little pampering. With the help of the delicious Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Sugar, I got to working and made a festive and relaxing scrub everyone will enjoy!

To make your own peppermint vanilla body scrub, you will need...
-1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
-1 or 2 drops of peppermint essential oil

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and transfer into a jar of your choice. This scrub is incredibly easy to put together, so to make it extra special, I spiced up this jar that I got at Michael's for $1. I started by cutting a doily in half, then I lightly coated the back side of each piece with mod podge and firmly pressed them on either side of the jar. I let that dry for about 15 minutes, then I added a second coat of mod podge on top. I let that sit for another 15 minutes and added one more coat. I let that sit over night, and in the morning I sealed everything with a coat of EnvirTex Lite, which is a high gloss finish that can be found at Michael's. This will make sure the doilies remain water proof on the jar.

Easy, right?? If you need more gift giving ideas, check out the awesome recipes on the Nielsen-Massey site! If you just feel like saying hollaaaaa, you can find them on Facebook and Twitter as well!
