Happy Friday Eve friends!
I am so excited to be sharing my first holiday DIY with you today! I've been keeping my focus on wedding crafts for the past few months, but this week I decided to take a break from that and direct myself towards all things festive. There is so something so calming to me about crafting gifts and holiday decor. Though really the holidays in general just leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling all around. For my first holiday craft, I thought I'd make a few coasters to give out as hostess gifts during Thanksgiving next week/upcoming holiday parties. They're super cheap to make, really simple to customize and EASY. All of my favorite things!
To make your own DIY coasters you'll need...
-Ceramic tiles. I got mine at Home Depot for 16 cents each.
-Paper of your choice. I used black and white striped wrapping paper, but you can use anything. Scrapbook paper, sheet music, your favorite photos, the possibilities are endless!
-Mod Podge
-Brush
-Scissors
-Pencil
-EnviroTex Lite (a high gloss finish, necessary so your coasters stay water proof!)
Here's what you do...
Start by tracing an outline of your tile on whatever paper or print you've chosen to use. Don't worry about
being too precise with this. The tiles have rough edges so it can be a little difficult, just trace as close as to the tile as you can. Cut your piece out and generously spread some mod podge on the back of it.
Carefully place your paper onto your clean tile, pressing everything down and smoothing out any bumps or air bubbles. Let your coaster sit for about 15 minutes. Next, add a thin layer of mod podge on top of your coaster, with your brush strokes going down. Let dry for another 15 minutes.
Add one more layer of mod podge, this time making your brush strokes horizontal. Let this dry over night. To make sure your tiles are water proof, I highly recommend stopping by Michael's or any craft store and picking up EnvirTex Lite. The instructions are fairly simple but the results are awesome. This seals your print into the tile and will help everything last a long time. I used a 50% off coupon at Michael's and spent about $7 on a small box. You can find a Michael's coupon here!
Once everything is dry, admire your work and either enjoy them yourself or wrap them with a pretty bow to give as a gift!
I NEVER would have thought to get ceramic tiles to do this! Perfect idea, and incredibly cheap but super cute Christmas presents, right?!
