Hi there!
I should be telling you that I'm so glad you're here...but instead I'm going to tell you that I'm so glad I'M here (though actually, I'm also glad you're here too!). I've been in a serious blogging/life funk for quite sometime and today, for no particular reason, I suddenly feel like myself again. *clouds part* But really, I'm so excited to get back into the swing of things, enjoy October, prepare for the holidays, reconnect with other bloggers, the whole enchilada! Yay! Since I've been out of the loop for a while, I thought I'd participate in the Tour Through Blogland that's been going around. Thanks to Ana from It's Been Delicious for inviting me in on this fun little hop!
What am I working on? A ton of Fall/Winter DIY's! This is absolutley my favorite time of the year for crafting. There's seriously nothing more soothing to me than turning on the Christmas station (yes, in October) and spending the evening crafting, drinking anything warm/pumpkin flavored, and just relaxing. Some of my favorite projects so far have been some beanies and a few pillows. I can't wait to share them with you!
How does my work differ from others of this genre? This is a hard question because I feel like I'm only just beginning to understand what my genre really is. I've been trying to figure out how to answer this and I just can't for now. Blah. #ifail. OH, I use a lot of hash-tags in my posts even though you can't click them and they lead you nowhere. It's probably annoying, but it' what makes me #different. #seewhatididthere
Why do I write/create what I do? A long time ago I decided I wasn't going to write about my health on here anymore, simply because I do not like sympathy. This blog did come about because of my health issues though, so I suppose I shouldn't simply throw them off to the side and pretend they don't exist. I was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in my small intestine when I was in college, and that was a total nightmare but I powered through. Fast forward to now, I am currently undergoing treatment for another (very small, very much not dangerous but still annoying and painful) tumor in my right breast. It doesn't stop me from living my life the way I want to. I work, go out, have fun, etc etc. I just take a ton of medicine and go to physical therapy and such. Anyway, I blog and create as a way to remind myself that I am not dying. I have a big beautiful, creative soul within me and I've got to let that thing shine, know what I mean? It's easy to feel down and emotionally drained going through all of this, but blogging has given me such awesome and supportive friends and it's pushed me to work harder to be a better version of myself every day. That is why I blog, and I need to remind myself of this a lot more often.
How does your writing/creative process work? Creativity wise...I'm a giant penny-pincher, so when I see something pretty or cool anywhere, my mind immediately thinks "how can I recreate this without spending a lot of money?" (example: this $3 Anthropologie inspired garland). It's fun and challenging and I really like that! I'm pretty good about coming up with ideas...the writing is what kills me because I'll open up a post, write like a maniac and five seconds later I decide I've rambled too much and start rewording everything. Then I get annoyed with myself. Such as now.
On to some goal setting! I'm kind of freaking out that it's already October. I never understand where the time goes. Like...it was just September 1st about 5 seconds ago. Sigh. Nonetheless, October will be a really fantastic month!
October Goals:
1. Do our wedding registry. According to wedding experts we are super behind on this.
2. Go on a hike. I haven't been in so, so long.
3. Go apple picking! We go every year, and I'm incredibly excited to make it happen soon!
4. Edit my wardrobe. Too much I don't wear. Super unnecessary. You get the picture.
5. Hang out with more blogger friends (in person or virtually!). I always feel more committed and inspired when I'm constantly in touch with like minded bloggers.
6. Take more photos. I barely picked up my camera in September!
7. Take 2 Skillshare classes. I have a membership that I am not fully taking advantage of and I have to change that!
What are your goals for October?

OH, PS: Andrew and I are going to be in the audience today for the recording of Dancing With The Stars. It's airing tonight and I am (not so secretly) hoping our faces pop up in the background! We want to be celebrities. Duh.

Oh, I totally feel you! Online shopping is so addicting!
DeleteOur goals this month are very similar! Even with the Apple picking! I love how you said "edit" your wardrobe! SO TRUE! That's also on my on-going list! :)
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm hoping to go apple picking next weekend!
DeleteI seriously just went thru the same thing and came back this week. Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteYay! Welcome back!
DeleteThis is a lovely list! I also need to rearrange my wardrobe and take more photos!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Good luck with your goals!!
DeleteLove the fact that you share your goals publicly to make yourself accountable. I want to finish some travel posts from a trip I made in May by the end of the month!
ReplyDeleteI think sharing them publicly is the only way I can keep myself accountable! Good luck with your goals this month!!!
DeleteWay ahead of me I see. I hope I won't be too late with this. Great goals for this fall!
ReplyDeleteHaha no worries :)
DeleteI can't wait to go Apple picking this month! One of my yearly October goals is visiting a haunted house and I accomplished that last weekend <3
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I went to a haunted house 2 years ago and from then on I decided never again. You're brave!!
DeleteI love that you are a list keeper, too! :) It definitely keeps me motivated! Great goals for Fall! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks Breanna!
Deletedo project 333 with me!! and what hike are you gonna go on?
ReplyDeleteAh! I need to try 333 so badly!! Also, I really want to go on the Hollywood hike even though we've done that one a million times!
DeleteOctober is the perfect month to thin out your wardrobe. The change in temperature screams for a new wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! If only SoCal would cooperate :)
Deleteloved getting to know you!!! As for the wedding registry thing --- i dragged my now-husband to the stores right before we ordered our invites, not even kidding. he wouldn't go until it was absolutely necessary. hopefully you're adventure into that fun time is better than mine was! =) and i'm totally jealous you get to go apple picking every year - i've never been!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura! My soon to be husband is actually pretty excited about the registry! I'm the one that's freaking out, mostly because I have no idea what we should register for since we basically have nothing at all, seems overwhelming! Also, if you at all get a chance to go apple picking, doooo it! It's so fun :)
DeleteGood luck with your goals! I'm with you on #6. I've definitely picked up my camera in the past few months but I have so much to edit that I've been avoiding taking more pictures. I need to get that backlog under control.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! At least it's a fun task, right? :)
DeleteOh my gosh I love the picture you took for this post!
ReplyDeleteCan I suggest something to you? Not really related to the blog post today, but your font is sooo tiny - I kind of just want to skim through the post because even though I have awesome eyesight (no glasses required) this is a little too tiny. Anyway, just a bit of helpful constructive criticism.
Thanks for the tip! I also think it's pretty small, I'm actually getting a blog redesign right now and the font is bigger, worry not :)
DeleteApple picking! Apple picking! I'm totally doing that next weekend!
ReplyDeleteYay!!! I hope you had a blast!
DeleteGreat goals :D Our goal for the month is to purge purge purge. 2 more truck loads of stuff to donate and 1 more to the dump before the end of the month!
ReplyDeleteFeels awesome to purge! Good luck!
DeleteLove these goals!! You are gonna have a great month :) I have been dying to go apple picking myself!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lindsay!
DeleteI get so inspired in the fall, I absolutely love it! Have so much fun registering, and apple picking is the best!
ReplyDeleteThanks Erica!
DeleteHow exciting that you got to sit in the audience for Dancing with the stars, I know you said you don't like pity, and you know what? I think that makes you even better as a person. It's so admirable when someone picks themselves up and goes 'This is a speed bump, I'm stronger than this' hugely commendable!
ReplyDeleteI hope you plow on through your October goals!
Katie <3
Thanks so much for your words of encouragement Katie! I really appreciate it :)
DeleteHey there! I love your outlook on life, it's good to stay positive.

ReplyDeleteThanks Carly!
DeleteLoving so many of these goals! Personally, I think you're right on schedule with your wedding registry. Haha. I also need to edit my wardrobe, pick up a camera, and go on a hike (with the leaves changing it's about to get crazy beautiful!). Can't wait to answer this little Q&A! Thanks for nominating me! xoxo
ReplyDeleteHaha, glad you also agree that everyone will buy our gifts a week before anyway ;)
DeleteWe all get in blog funks sometimes! No biggie. I love your crafts. Keep creating! Xo
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer!
DeleteYou know what, I have never been apple picking...definitely could be because I don't like apples. But, the kids LOVE it. I think I might follow your goal on this and try it before the month is over.
