It All Started With Hello...Blogger Connections

Today's post is brought to you by Lindt HELLO Chocolate. Thank you for supporting the brands that keep this party going! #itallstartedwithhello

Meeting other bloggers can be a difficult thing. As bloggers we spend hours hanging out behind our computers, writing about ourselves and our lives, talking to a ton of people through comments and social media. Often it can feel like we actually know one another thanks to our daily communication, but it's totally different when you're face to face with someone who you only "know" through blogging or social media. It can be a tad intimidating, scary, overwhelming, etc etc. I wouldn't consider myself an introvert, but I am definitely a lot more shy than I lead on. Last week, I attended a blogger meetup, and though this wasn't my first one, I was incredibly nervous because a lot of the bloggers in attendance were very experienced. Not just that, this was a meetup meant to spark collaborations amongst one another, meaning I actually had to talk. A lot. #scary.

Here's my usual blogger meetup strategy: I wait for the host of the event to kick things off and then I gravitate towards another lone soul who also looks freaked out. This time however, I went in with a completely different mindset. I decided I just needed to woman up (aka be brave) and spark conversations with as many people as possible, have fun, and be myself. Simple enough, right? Yeah! It really is that simple. The minute I walked into the room, I felt excited, inspired, and overall just really empowered. I decided I had just as much right to be there as the "bigger" bloggers, and I too could throw myself into a few collaborations, because why not? And just like that, I confidently said hello to so many awesome women! I met a lot of bloggers with crazy cool personalities, and equally crazy cool blogs. I even lined up a collab with someone else, which is something I am really looking forward to! All because I said hello. It is literally that simple. Just take a breath, and put yourself out there.

I have to confess something, I attached some Lindt Hello chocolate to my business cards for the meetup, which may or may not have been the reason why anyone was interested in talking to me...just kidding! I'm sure it was more than the chocolate! But seriously, how cute and convenient are these tiny little chocolates to share with people??

It's crazy to think that just a simple hello can make such a huge difference in our lives. Big events, or even just small simple everyday things can feel intimidating sometimes, but all it really takes to face things bravely is to decide you want to be brave and make connections

  1. What an awesome idea - sticking some chocolate to a business card! I'll steal that one. :) Also, if you don't mind, what plugin are you using for your instagram?

  2. You're right, sometimes a little hello is what someone really needs. I find that I get intimidated and shy around people I don't know, or never met. I'm going to a blogger event with 30 bloggers on Thursday, and I have to admit - it's sometimes scary walking into a room like that. Even if I KNOW we have stuff in common.

  3. You are so correct. I can tend to be a social butterfly, BUT, for some reason very hard at making the first move. Great idea on this one. Which reminds me, I need to order some business cards.

  5. SO cool! I feel like I have such strong connections with other bloggers and have made so many great friends but it is all through the internet and connecting through our blogs. I really need to start going to some face to face networking events to meet people in person!

  6. One of my best friends in this world met me at church 6 years ago. I walked past her and she said, "you're really pretty, I know a guy that would die to go out with a girl like you." And the rest is history. We've been friends ever since. Now we're both married and she has two kids. A simple hello from her gave me a beautiful friendship.

  17. So cute! I feel you on the awkwardness of introducing yourself to other bloggers. I went to the rewardStyle party during NYFW and I was such a creep. I should've brought a plus one. I even met a blogger that we always comment on each others blog and I was like "Gosh, it's hot Im gonna leave." haha Oh man!
